Web-based instruction is an important focus in the current educational reforms in China, but the practical effects of applying web-based instruction still have many aspects requiring further research. The motivation to study is an emotional state that a student displays when he or she forges industriously ahead in the learning activities. How effectively students participate in web-based instruction is an important study, and more information on this issue should be urgently sought.

Based on an analysis of the difficulty of students maintaining their enthusiasm to study using web-based instruction, and combined with research in educational technology, this paper proposes five factors and twelve effective methods to help students remain positive and willing to participate in web-based instruction.
